Game description:
NHL 25 is an ice hockey simulation video game developed by EA Vancouver and published by EA Sports. It is the 34th installment in the NHL video game series and was released for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 4, 2024. NHL 25 is the first of the franchise to release exclusively on the Ninth generation of video game consoles.
Gameplay:
Built on an all-new logic-driven animation system, ICE-Q responds to contextual events on the ice with unprecedented authenticity and is the foundation of Chel’s gameplay overhaul.
The all-new Grudge Match System keeps track of the competitive history between teams and the introduction of SAPIEN Technology to the NHL franchise takes character likenesses to a whole other level.
Franchise Mode gets a revamp in NHL 25. Starting with the Franchise hub, streamlined navigation gives players access to new, relevant, and easy-to-digest information. We’ll reveal more Franchise updates in the coming months.
Check out all the new ways you can build your dream roster in Hockey Ultimate Team, including Wildcard Mode that brings unique rulesets to keep players on their toes and ready to adapt with each and every cycle.
Arcade mode returns to the NHL franchise for the first time since 2017, bringing a fun, high-energy way to play NHL 25.
Game review:
There’s no denying that the action on the ice looks better than ever in NHL 25, and it’s nice to see Franchise Mode get some welcome changes that help it feel more authentic for those interested in the sim experience. But when I look at this year's entry as a whole it's quite lackluster, with very few meaningful mechanical changes that ultimately just leave it feeling like more of the same as last year. For being the first NHL game available exclusively on current-gen consoles, it’s a shame that NHL 25 is still stuck in the same last-gen rut.
